For those of you who seek to make a difference in your work environment and desire to be a witness for Jesus Christ, this introduction is for you. The Wichita Christian Chamber of Commerce birthed out of the personal longing of Russ and Jackie Jones to partner with other like-minded Christians in the marketplace of ideas, business and ministry.
Through their own challenges and triumphs in business they discovered there was limited communication between Christian businesses in the Wichita area. "We drug our feet for nearly a year to launch the Christian Chamber," said Russ Jones. "Who needs another meeting where Christians are just talking to themselves we thought. But because of our work in the Christian marketplace that has brought both joy and disappointment we saw an opportunity to impact the business culture in the area."
The Jones' publish The Christian Press Newspaper as well as own BIG Picture Media Group, Inc., a boutique media firm.
Only in recent years have Christian Chamber of Commerce organizations developed. Yet there is a small, but devoted group of Christian business leaders across the US making a differnce on Main Street through Christian Chamber efforts. The Jones' have been mentored my Mike Benton of Irving, Texas who launched the DFW Christian Chamber three years ago. The DFW Christian Chamber along with others across the country are providing an intentional structure for Christian business leaders to not only meet, but find support and direction in how they do business.
"I call it the Bartholomew effect," said Russ Jones. "I find I need three key people I'm either mentoring or being mentored by. A Bartholomew (older and wiser), a Paul (who is a peer where 'Iron sharpens iron') and a Timothy. (a person I ammentoring) Rarely do people willingly take on these roles, but the balance is critical for us to be effective for Christ."
The Wichita Christian Chamber seeks to provide opportunities for growth in both business and spiritual practice. The culture holds higher standards for Christian business people. As they should. Yet, when we fail to live up to that standard where do we go? With whom do we consult? Today's culture is so fragmented many either go hide in failure or give up completely.
The Wichita Christian Chamber is not a place where we seek perfection, but authenticity, character and grace. Don't be a stranger. We can't wait to meet you.
